A Brief History
Contemporary ballet is influenced by modern dance. Floor work is a big part of contemporary ballet. Instead of turn out which is the outward rotation they use turn in. Bare feet are also done in contemporary ballet.
Unlike classical ballet, neo-classical ballet has simple sets and costumes. Increased speed, energy and attack are part of this type of ballet. Neo-classical ballet is also non-narrative.
Classical ballet is what you would normally think of ballet. It has graceful flowing movements. Classical ballet also uses turn out and pointe work. Things such as formations have balance and symmetry. Elaborate costumes and sets are also used in classical ballet.
Plot less ballets are almost the opposite of the story ballet. They have not storyline. Instead in a plot less ballet interprets music and express emotion.
